Julia Evatt Paintings/Poetry

The first exhibit
will feature Julia Evatt’s current collection
of paintings and sculpture. The show will run from July
5 through July 12. In addition, at the reception
on July 5, from 6-8 PM, Ms. Evatt will be reading a
sampling of her poetry. The exhibit will feature live
entertainment the evenings of the receptions.
Although she came late
to the visual arts, Julia is known in literary circles
as a poet and short-story writer, with publication in
national magazines and has had two chapbooks of poetry
published, The Naming and Blood Kin, the last as winner
of The Georgia Poetry Society’s National Chapbook
Contest.

Big Canoe Artists
Reception July 19 from 6-8 pm

The second exhibit of
the summer will feature Big Canoe Artists exhibiting
from July 17-26 with local talent Alan Gibson presenting
an original stage production of “Here’s
to You, Twentieth Century”, a fresh approach to
U.S. history, at the reception on July 19, from 6 to
8pm. The exhibit will feature live entertainment the
evenings of the receptions. Mr. Gibson, a former Army
Intelligence officer now a published author, also hosts
a television show “The Civility Hour”, and
is co-founder of the Civie awards as carried nationally
by the Associated Press. Friends say he seems to get
more fun out of life than most people and audiences
are learning why.

Mountain Artists Group
Reception August 2 from 6-8 pm

The third exhibit will
feature the artwork of Mountain Artists Group from July
31 to August 9. At the reception on August 2, from 6
to 8 pm, Alan Gibson will be presenting another of his
wonderful productions, “America’s Folk Philosophy,
What We Really Think”. Everyone is welcome to
attend. The exhibit will feature live entertainment
the evenings of the receptions.

Library Gallery
The shelves in the kitchen
have been cleared off to provide new space for BOOKS!
All creative people have books in their collections
that they no longer use and Sharptop has provided a
space for your donation of such books. Art books
of all types, craft books, photography books, books
on creative writing — any type of book that relates
to our mission statement to stimulate and encourage
art appreciation and development of the arts and crafts.
We will also feature paintings on the walls from our
permanent collection, smaller shows and additional arts/craft
items from the Member Gallery.
All donations are tax
deductible and books will be available for check out.
Donations of books may be brought to Sharptop Art Center
Thursday – Saturday 12:00 noon until 4:00pm.

Sharptop Arts is beginning
the process to get their own home, the Tom Quinton House,
listed on the National Register. The National Register
of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States government's
official list of places worthy of preservation. Its
goals are to help identify and protect historic sites
in the United States.
Additional information
is needed. Can you help?
1. Photocopies of
historic photographs
2. Verification that WPA was the builder
3. More detailed history of the Women’s
Club and building
4. Scrapbooks of the Women’s Club
5. Plaque attached to the building with information,
if existing
If you have any photos,
scrapbooks, or newspaper clippings pertaining to the
building, they would like to copy them. If you can provide
anecdotal information or stories about the original
building, let them interview you. If you can tell them
any of these ways to validate or verify information

located just north of downtown Jasper is perfect for
just such a venture.
Meet new friends and share
your passion for your creations or collection.
Be the Host or Hostess of the Friday evening opening
party. We will add news and details about your
show in the weekly Pickens Progress Arts Center article,
and our web designer will promote your show on our website.
And, of course, you are welcome to offer your pieces
for sale as well, should you choose to.
Just bring yourself
and your art!
